Evaluation of Occlusive Cerebrovascular Disease
Eighty-four patients with cerebroTucnlar disease were studied by cerebral angiograpby and a prototype Doppler device, ultrasonic quantitative flow measurement (UQFM), that provides data from which absolute common carotid flow can be determined. The UQFM showed significantly lower flows in 23 patients who had complete occlusion of the internal carotid artery on the affected side (p < 0.001). In ...
متن کاملThermography in occlusive cerebrovascular diseases.
Cooling of the skin over the medial supraorbital region in 80% of patients who have an occlusion or severe stenosis of a carotid artery can be demonstrated by facial thermography. Minor stenotic lesions in the carotid arteries do not produce characteristic thermographic changes, while thermography is of no help in the diagnosis of vertebrobasilar arterial disease.Thermographic changes suggestiv...
متن کاملBy Pass Surgery
The bottom line is this: when patients are advised to have a coronary angiogram, chances are eight out of ten that they do not need it. The critical factor in whether a pa‐ tient needs coronary artery by‐ pass surgery or angioplasty is how well the left ventricular pump is working, not the de‐ gree of blockage or the number of arteries affected. The left ventricle (chamber) of the heart is resp...
متن کاملTrigeminal artery and occlusive cerebrovascular disease.
Two patients with persistent trigeminal artery who had an ipsilateral cerebral stroke are presented. The relevant literature is reviewed. The significance of the trigeminal artery in occlusive cerebrovascular disease is discussed and it is concluded that the presence of a trigeminal artery in patients with occlusive cerebrovascular disease may not be of major protective value.
متن کاملEnhanced erythrocyte aggregability in occlusive cerebrovascular disease.
We measured the rate of erythrocyte aggregation using our whole-blood aggregometer in 80 patients with occlusive cerebrovascular disease during the acute and chronic phases. We compared the data with values for 38 age-matched healthy controls. Mean +/- SD erythrocyte aggregability of the patients during both the acute phase (0.145 +/- 0.21/sec, n = 35) and the chronic phase (0.139 +/- 0.21/sec,...
